Happy Pi Day
we’re supposed
to say
this 14th day
of March.
In celebration
of the aspiration
of the calculation
of the ratio
of a circle’s
circumference
to its diameter,
pies
are everywhere
today.
Greater than
3
indefinitely,
presumably
to infinity,
3.14……
opens the door
to conversation,
inspiration,
and innovation.
We tend
to measure
progress
as success
in linear
fashion.
Rational
thinking
suggests
it’s best
to proceed
toward
a finite
result.
Oh the tumult
of the irrational,
never
ending
chaos.
Still there
is sequencing
in the frequenting
of disruption
and corruption.
It’s the infinite
expansion,
however
inexpressible,
that we try
to make
accessible.
With Pi
we use
a decimal
to approach
the approachable;
In politics,
so fractious,
the fractions
are reproachable.
Whether measuring
circular motion,
waves,
aerodynamics,
or computer
graphics,
Pi
is ubiquitous
and thus
we observe
3.14
that measures
the curve—
the irrational
number
forever
repeating.
By the way,
a fun fact
for today:
Happy Birthday,
Albert Einstein,
whose calculus
taught us
relative
perspective.
Or did it?
