Cesar Dressing

Many

a school

and boulevard

is named

for the man

whose

reputation’s

now marred

by the revelations

in the NYT

investigations

into

sexual abuse

by the Latino

and Farm Workers

Union hero,

Cesar Chavez.

Dolores Huerta

the “abuela”

of the same

movement,

chose silence

about being

raped by him

and his abuse

of girls

and other

women,

for the sake

of the Farm

Workers

Union

and Latino

rights.

Now

at almost

96,

her admission

could help

fix

the trap

of hero

worship.

Leadership

is an ego

trip,

but the script

must be

flipped

more immediately.

The fear

and shame

shouldn’t be

for the victims

of abuse,

but for those

who confuse

title

with entitlement.

Victims

of Chavez

were as young

as 9,

and Ms. Huerta,

whom he twice

raped

at the time,

each time

resulting

in children,

was so

committed to

her work

with the UFW,

and the rights

of farm workers

and Latinos,

that she chose

silence

for what she

believed

was a greater

good;

but also

for what she

believed

she could

do.

In many ways

our culture

is now more

aware

of the reality

of the pervasiveness

of sexual

abuse.

But many

refuse

to accept

the concept

that women

and children

are actually

not objects.

Even other

humanitarian

projects

carve out

sex

as somehow

irrelevant.

The recent

revelations

show Chavez

was malevolent –

not just

the macho

hero.

And now

bro

culture-

the manosphere-

does appear

to embrace

misogyny.

Accountability

for irresponsibility

much less,

abuse,

finds

an excuse

among

the obtuse

and those

who have

something

to lose.

Of course,

everyone

has something

to lose,

and to choose

to ignore

abuse,

or deviance,

for the convenience

of political

expedience

is itself

an abdication

of responsibility.

Sure,

we give females

our blessing

and yet

insinuate

that dressing

a certain

way

causes

inappropriate

behavior

by invitation.

Only

such a notion

removes

responsibility

for action

and gives

agency

to spaghetti

straps

and mini

skirts.

It hurts

my heart

to learn

this news,

not for Chavez,

but for

Huerta.

She had

to endure

for

sixty

years

for fears

of “greater”

pain.

But the greater

stain

will be

on

all of us

who let

injustice

remain.

Formerly Known As Prince

You knew

that Andrew

was in

a Windsor

knot,

and not

because

he draws

positive

attention.

But the arrest

of one

of the

highest profile

friends

of Epstein

by a mile,

is the one

formerly known

as Prince

Andrew.

Whom did he

talk to?

Or was it

just Epstein?

And what intel

did he tell

if he told

bad old

Epstein,

and why?

The plot,

not

just sickening,

is now

ever thickening,

with tales

of international

intrigue.

In a league

of his own,

Epstein brokered

connections

in all directions,

while trafficking

girls

as objects

of sex.

This tale

of abuse

and lies

and powerful

ties,

perhaps of spies,

still denies

most

of the victims’

voices.

The choices

to ignore

his crimes

before

accepting

favors and gifts,

show a classless

class

of grifts

and thrifts

among the wealthiest

and most powerful.

This spectacle

of unacceptable,

is a basket

of deplorable,

that should make

us nauseous

and wince.

Formerly known

as respectable

people,

we presumed

more than

innocence.

A former prince,

left untitled,

though still

entitled,

must be held

accountable.

Truth to power

can feel

insurmountable

when the most

powerful

get slapped

on the wrist.

A nice twist

to this list

of influencers

influenced

by a confidence

guy

with cultivated

connections,

instead of deflections

and rejections

of what

was known

to be true,

would be to

witness

the prosecution

of the real

prostitution

at the highest

levels

and see,

not just

transparency,

but actual

accountability.

Shame Must Change Sides

This week

in between

is really seen

as a global

holiday

season.

The contrast

is vast

between

the miraculous

and the rest

of us;

darkness

and light

and not

just

at night.

The kindness

reminds us

that our

gifts

mend

our rifts

and drifts

from basics.

The memory

of

the year

with a new one

so near

is condensed

to the election

and the fear

of  an inflection

point.

But another

story,

details

quite gory,

is still

quite worthy

of our

consideration.

In France,

was a

trial

so vile

it was almost

beyond

comprehension.

Gisele Pelicot

didn’t know

she was

being drugged

and raped

and video taped

by her spouse

in their house

while men

he arranged,

(this is all

so deranged),

to violate

her

as he watched

dozens

of them

over dozens

of years.

It sears

the heart

and brain.

In 2024

Gisele

could restore

herself

and us

with justice.

The disregard

of humanity,

the insanity,

and the evil

lengths

to which

people

will go

for their

libido

and ego

satisfaction

is not

the story’s

end.

With unfathomable

strength

and grace

she reminds

us

to face

and say

what is so:

“Shame

must change

sides.”

Gisele Pelicot,

my shero.

Beyond

2024,

though

we will

have to endure,

we shall

restore,

and

it will

surely be

a rough ride.

Shame

must change

sides!

And hope

resides

in action.

The Pearly Gaetz

Clutching pearls,

swirls of shock

over the king

of schlock’s

sick picks

to stick

it to

who

ever

he can,

there’s

consensus

that he’s

doing what

he said

when he

ran.

Now we’ve got

Gaetz ,

who ingratiates,

insinuates,

conflates,

debates….

the perfect

sycophant

intransigent

who kept

Kevin McCarthy

at bay

and had

his day

and night

in the limelight.

Apparently,

it’s loyalty

that qualifies

one

to be

Attorney

General,

no matter

how incredible

or un-credible

the selection.

An ethics

investigation

for sex trafficking

and obstruction

of justice

is just

so last

administration.

Deposing

The Speaker

showed that

the weaker

are the ones

who run

from

Trump.

What looks

like cowardice

to me

will now

lead Justice

as  chief

Attorney,

although

he barely

practiced

law.

With his

shiny

teeth and hair

and not

a care

for decency,

his lust

for power

or just

luster

as the guy

who will

try

anything,

giving him

the bling

in the Trump

ring,

the gates

are open.

Along with

Tulsi

directing

national intelligence,

the oxi-

morons

pile up.

We’re a part

of the global

warming trend

toward “strong

men”;

a reminder

that artificial

intelligence

demands

astronomical

energy.

The synergy

within

the incoming

administration

is like everything

shocking

but not surprising.

With the stench

of Musk

reeking,

wreaking

pain

with insane

people

who are

his personal

best,

the country

now waits

at

the pearly

Gaetz’

department

of justice

for the

ridiculous,

now serious.

Immune from Immunity

Phew!

What we knew

we knew—

(iykyk)—

that we need

immunity

from

POTUS
immunity

as decided

unambiguously,

unanimously

by a panel

of 3

bipartisan

judges.

Now the matter

shifts

to the supremes.

Will they

or won’t they

take the case

that sets

the pace

for the race

against

time

for trials

and a trying

election

season?

There is no

immuno-

compromise;

only immuno-

suppression .

And our immuno-

deficiency

is the inefficiency

of our system

of democracy

where time

and norms

seem easily

distorted

and contorted

through sordid

actions

and throwing

spaghetti

with ketchup

at the walls

of justice.

Now I worry

about some

justices

who curry

favor

with the uber

wealthy

and stealthily

conceal

their

deal

making.

Our system

is not immune

to the opportunistic,

parasitic,

narcissistic

one(s)

who herd

the weak

as they seek

power

with immunity.

But for now,

this inoculation

immunizing

us from

presidential

immunity

is welcome.

Next,

we brace

for the case

of Colorado

and the 14th

Amendment

in the POTUS

race.

At least

there’s

the Super

Bowl

to distract,

and the debate

will shift

to Taylor

Swift—

silly stuff

when we’ve

heard enough

about immunity

for now.

The Nutcracker

I never understood

how a nutcracker

could

be

a favorite

gift

until now.

Oh how sweet

the suite

has been

this week.

Like the famed

ballet

our nutcrackers

today

are soldiers

of the good

and just.

The Nutcracker

kills

the menacing

7 Headed

Mouse King,

allowing

the land

of the sweets

to thrive.

Earlier this week

The Mouse King

made references

to his preferences

for dictators

and his desire

to hire

those

who will impose

restrictions

and revenge.

But our

Nutcrackers

have been

cracking

while

the nutty

keep attacking,

because

it’s what

they do.

Now Rudy

owes Ruby

and Shaye

a ginormous

pay day,

and more

to come

because

he won’t

succumb

to accountability.

Judge Engoron

closed the door on

the lies

of the “expert

witness”

of the Mouse King.

And Bravo,

Colorado,

for disqualifying

the horrifying

candidacy

of the Mouse King.

Letitia James,

Fani Willis,

Jack Smith,

and so many

other

Nutcrackers

among us,

are doing

the work

of justice

as we wait

for Christmas

whatever

time of year

it comes,

bearing

the gift

of blocking

The Mouse King

forever.

First of All

The first

former POTUS

to be indicted

after being

the first

POTUS

to be impeached

twice,

will begin

to face

consequences

for the

first time.

Who knows

how this

will go?

The precedent

for the President

is being set

and it feels

like the first

reckoning

with American

ideals,

especially regarding

“and justice

for all”.

At first,

the fear

of violence

seemed to

make too

many people

reticent about

any indictment.

Will it be bad

for the country?

No justice

has been

bad

for the country.

(And the world.)

And this

is likely

to be

the first

of more

cases

against

the guy

who first

tried

to subvert

the 2016

election

with a

$130k

check,

then tried

to subvert

the 2020

election

with the call

to Georgia

that everyone

heard,

and then

he tried

to subvert

the Electoral

College

with fake

electors,

and then

he invited

armed protestors

to march

to  The Capitol,

offering to

accompany

them,

and watched

while

they stormed

and desecrated

the building,

threatening our

lawmakers

and the VEEP

and massacring

police.

Meanwhile,

he hoarded

classified

documents

and stored

them at

his property

in Mar a Lago.

But first

things

first.

All the rest

will be

firsts

for a former

POTUS,

and for

all of us

who dare

to care

about

the rule

of law

for everyone.
