Freedom Fighters?

They are all

terrorists,

claiming

to be

anti colonists

or anti zionists

or whatever

the latest

version

of subversion

and inversion

may be;

but to me,

yelling

freedom

not while

holding signs

or hands,

but

while

in the midst

of shooting,

burning,

attacking,

threatening,

beating,

etcetera,

is meeting

the criteria

not for

legitimacy,

but for

criminality

of the worst

kind.

Yell

all you

want,

if you

want

to yell,

but the hell

we see

daily

it seems,

of innocent

lives

made

a prize

or some

token

for a cause

because

someone

decided

that jews

(or fill

in the blank)

are the problem

and always

have been

and always

will be,

I guarantee

find

their hate

channeled,

but

insatiable.

Hate is

like

that little

shop

of horrors.

It feeds

its needs

unendingly.

The spate

of antisemitic

violence

against

innocents

just

this year

alone

should

sear

the heart

of anyone

and everyone,

but does it?

Any group

maligned

or assigned

problematic

in the way

antisemitic

hate works,

just like

any (and every)

form of

bigotry,

isn’t some sort

of existential

symmetry.

It does

not affect

the actual

oppressor.

I can be

pro-Palestinian

and pro- Palestine

without being

a philistine.

I have no

interest

in killing

those

with whom

I disagree.

Sadly,

we forget

that a government

may not represent

its constituents.

The innocents

are everywhere

and have always

been

the forgotten.

Spare me

the faux

freedom

fight

and claim

of right,

even if

believed.

Ill conceived

when needing

purpose

or cause

for ineffectiveness,

the subjectiveness

subjects

us less

to righteousness

and freedom

than to destructiveness

and endless

heinousness.

It’s ridiculous

that we aren’t

beyond this.

We seem

to use

more tools

to enable

than to

disable

the weaknesses

of humans.

Or maybe

they are just

more accessible.

The Weak That Was

Loud and

pre-ashamed

he claimed

that if he

doesn’t

win

the election,

the “jewish people”

will bear

a lot

of the blame.

And to whom

was Trump

addressing?

If you’re guessing

not Jews,

you’d lose.

Because,

when the theme

is anti-semitism,

my pessimism

resurges

as Trump’s urges,

guided by fear,

endear

the worst

of the worst

to him.

America’ Hitler

hands littler

to supporters

than hate.

And this is

the “great”

to make

America again.

Meanwhile,

Mark Robinson,

a North Carolinian

Republican

running for

governor,

was exposed

as a loud

and proud

“Black Nazi”.

Not backing

down

from these

comments

found

that he made

on

porn

sites

now public.

These men

so brash

who live

in trash

talking

old tropes

to collect

votes,

because

evil

will feel

powerful,

though

stemming

from

defect.

The way

to protect

is to deflect

and divide

while they

try to hide

through

bluster.

They muster

the flock

chock

full of hate

claiming

to love

this country.

The strength

of power

that makes

others cower,

is always

temporary.

But successive

gains

holding the reigns

is still

a chilling

strategy.

Pagers exploding

in Lebanon,

a coordinated

phenomenon

by Israel

to derail

Hezbollah,

weighs

heavily

internally

for so many

who want

peace

with dignity.

And for

the Jewish

state

of being

part of

the family

of democracy,

being Jewish

is always

something

to distort

even to

an audience

whose support

is needed

to win

an election.

College Admissions

I thought

I understood

the assignment.

Three

Ivy presidents

(notably, women)

were interrogated

by Congresswoman

Elise Sefanik

about anti

semitic

rhetoric

on campus.

The rest

of us

watched,

dumbfounded,

while the three

were hounded

as they sounded

pathetic.

Penn

stepped down

soon thereafter

and then

the mission

to get Harvard’s

resignation

broadened

to include

plagarization.

Huh?

Now I’m

confused

as

The Right

is amused.

Is President

Gay

as incompetent

as they say?

She (and the others)

certainly failed

to stand

against hate

in a clear

and forceful

manner.

But the issue

morphed

and quickly

dwarfed

the inherent

problems

of free speech.

Now it’s clear

that the smear

was in play

before

any admissions.

All the way

from k

through 12,

book bans

and some

topics

are prey

to the optics

of so-called

conservative

victories.

And higher

ed

is losing

cred

when

boards

revamp

campuses.

New College,

“too liberal”,

has become

undone,

replacing curriculum

and extras

begun,

as faculty

and students

have already

run

to more

hospitable

schools.

The tools

of The Right

insist on

a fight

against

inclusion.

Their claim

of exclusion

is construed

as intrusion

of those

people

and ideas

lacking

“merit”.

Offended

by difference

and fueled

by belligerence

creating

inference

of incompetence

and interference

of values,

twisting

DEI

and Critical

Race Theory

into some

nefarious

notions

of promotions

of people

undeserving

(because only

certain people

are deserving).

The subtext

seems to be

that white

and/or male

are merit-worthy,

and what

is now called

elite

is not

because

of the rot

of a culture

changing.

“But her

plagiarism”

reminds me

of another claim:

“But her

emails….”

as she fails

not on merit

but on whatever

they declare

it to be.

The suspicions

against women

and  any other

minority

in positions

of upward

mobility

in a facility

deemed

liberal ,

especially

those at

or near

the top,

will be fodder

for politicians

whether omissions

or admissions

of guilt

even apply.

Somehow

social justice

has been

perverted

by one side

to collide

with merit,

and subverted

to an inverted

definition

of bias

against.

Inclusion

is now

exclusion.

The ones

who used

to benefit

now see fit

to destroy

elite institutions

and upend

people’s lives.

The mascot

for team

defiance

whose reliance

on winning

at any cost,

while

aligning

with bitter

resentment,

is ascendent

to the most

elite

postion

of all.

His Wharton

degree

could not be

based

on merit.

Admittedly,

and shamefully,

hypocrisy

and conspiracy

are embraced

as winning

strategies

to counter

the culture

of decency

and meritocracy.

Poison Ivies

There’s something

toxic

in the climbing

ivy

all the way

to the top

of the higher

education

totem pole.

Three ivies’

presidents

we heard

as defendants

of free speech

on their private

campuses

regardless

of threats—

documented

effects—

of anti

semitic

rhetoric.

No counter

to the hate

expressed.

No one

suggested

context

or debate;

just hate.

Why not

call out

those who

shout

genocide

as a remedy

for

decades of war?

Unacceptable

admissions

of tolerance

that would

not

be tolerated

if other groups

were targeted.

Free speech

can be

ugly.

But why no

expression

of condemnation?

Isn’t education

supposed

to develop

the ability

to envelop

new ideas

and hold

more than

one view

at a time?

This war

in Gaza

has made

the campus

a plaza

for hate.

No longer

a 2 state

solution

discussed,

but disgusting

intentionally

careless

speech

that promotes

violence

as much

as freedom.

Free speech

can be hateful,

so when grateful

for the right

to verbally smite,

the intention

is inspiration

for action.

And what action

follows

hate?

Legislate?

The lesson

from the Ivy

Presidents’

defences

is that

the poison

released

is sickening

and could

prove deadly.

It’s not merely

the verbal

venom

spewed,

it’s the silence

ensued

in response

to free speech.

Post Impressionism

Vermin.

From the river to the sea.

Globalists.

Confederate flag.

Noose.

Ok gesture.

Welfare Queens.

Real Americans.

Law and Order.

America First.

MAGA.

Speech

can be

a weapon

that kills

the bodies

politic

and civic.

Let’s not

pretend

that words

may offend

without

consequences.

Posting hate

through images

visual

and linguistic

is intentionally

antagonistic

and characteristic

of the most

objectionable

among us.

Proudly

bigoted,

they promote

identity-based

appeals.

These signals

of utterly

inappropriate

appropriations

are coded

language

that convey

affiliation

by othering

while intentionally

demeaning.

The Dog Whistles

that may have

once been

mostly political

are predictable

and critical

for everyone

to hear.

This coded

communication

provides

information

and plausible

deniability.

Hate speech

may be free

to post,

but the cost

of expression

that leaves

an impression

of hate

and threat

as code

for action

is not

an abstraction

or mere

distraction.

There is no

innocence

in a call

to violence

without

saying as much.

The impression

says it all.

Three Sum

The last time

I had dinner

with someone

I didn’t

know

was a few

months

ago

by

the pool

with

other friends

in common.

It was not

random.

We were

introduced

intentionally.

We realized

that,

like us,

they used

to live

in Connecticut.

The guys

play golf.

Commonalities.

We shared

likes and

dislikes.

We would

learn more

background

each

gathering.

In sum,

we were

introduced

with knowledge

of some

sameness:

shared

experiences,

people,

and likes…

conversation

starters.

Imagine

sharing

a meal

with

a like

minded

friend

(supporter)

and their

like

minded

friend.

A conversation

starter,

“Nice

to meet

you.”

Even

as

racist

white supremacist

neo

nazis

are the

dinner

companions!!

It was

just

dinner,

with

gross

bigots—

whose calling cards

are crazy

bigotry—

who

we can

only hope

get

just

deserts.

They

may

be

three

stooges,

but

their

audience

is

weaponized

and

eager.

The sum

total

of the

dinner

is

the horror

of hate–

racism

and

antisemitism

metastasizing

rapidly

as

the “dinner

party”

stayed

silent and

complicit.

Trickles

of

rejection

days

after

knowingly

avoiding

and

trying

to balance

what?

Not

staying aligned

with

a loser,

versus

aligning

with

hate

and

abetting violence

by abiding

all.
