Hope Against Hope

The devastatingly

beautiful

Trump advisor

gave

devastating

testimony

for the people

versus

Donald Trump.

The stunning

witness

stunned

those present

when

she broke down

and cried

after she

testified

against

her former

boss.

At a loss

facing

cross

examination,

she seems

to have

been

conflicted.

She knew

right

from wrong,

and yet

stayed along

for the ride

until

2022.

She maintains

some

affection,

despite

his deception,

as so many

loyalists

do.

We can

hope

for the best

for the rest

of this trial,

but

I confess

I’m still

rather

nervous.

So far

impervious,

this should

concern

us,

and disturb

us,

as Hope

springs

eternally

grateful

despite

how

distasteful

the candidate

and president

was.

And I

still hope

for the best

for the rest

of us,

that those

who know

better

will ,

at least

privately,

opt

decidedly

for democracy.

Ms. Hicks

seeming

conflicted,

(despite

testimony

as predicted),

depicted

our hope

against

hope.

Just Us?

When is liberty

and justice

for all?

The story

and dream

of America

is a chimera,

but still

a worthy

intention.

The tension

between

rights

of different

types

has always

caused strain

and dissension.

More importantly,

it has caused

reinvention

of what was

to what could

be.

With liberty

and justice

for all:

we saw

and see

the reality

of necessity

and difficulty

of application

with humanity

and humility

and equality.

Each generation

thinks

they are

smarter;

above

and beyond

the harder

times

that preceded.

They won’t

be defeated

this time.

Times

change;

but do

humans?

The same

needs

and wants

feeds

and taunts

people

throughout

the ages.

Hubris

is

perhaps

the one

that keeps

us

repeating

mistakes.

Like

the addict

who is

convinced

of being

invincible

or just

not caring

enough,

we think

this time

we’ll

do it

and it

will be

better

because

we are

more

clever.

It’s sad

to think

that we

already

peaked

as a generation,

or nation,

or world

order.

The need

for recognition

and even

retribution

in the guise

of contribution

to something

better

is worse

when we

lose sight

of the reality

of humanity

always

needing

attention

and to

break

convention,

forgetting

the contention

that liberty

and justice

for all

continues.

Less is More

I hear

less used

more frequently

than what

“should be”

fewer.

It drives me

nuts

and cuts

to my

guts

as I wince

at the evidence

of ignorance

and intolerance

to abide

by rules

of shared

expression.

My confession

as a grammar

cop

is no

drop

the mic

situation.

I know

the flow

of communication

is a slow

evolution

of sorts.

Each generation

adds iteration

and creates

itself

anew.

I know

I shouldn’t

hammer

the skew

in grammar

but it sounds

so wrong

to me.

Grammar

rules!

But schools

of thought

have taught

that what

is indicated

is complicated.

Or maybe

it’s all

for naught.

The mixing

of quantity

and quality

reflects society’s

confusion.

“Less”

is more

often used

than “fewer”,

as newer

conventions

take hold.

I’m not quite

sold

on what sounds

merely

lazy,

lacking knowledge

of distinctions.

But what’s

the difference?

Many hands

make

more work

(and fewer

make less).

I know

that no

one cares

about

my woe,

(except

perhaps

a few

of you).

Rules

may be

meant

to be

broken,

but deciphering

meaning

is confusing

enough,

much less

when more

than intended

rules

are upended.

Am I

crazy?

Are we

just lazy?

Or is a hazy

recollection

of the collection

of rules

more

or less

too much

to ask?

Asleep at the We’ll

The cult

of personality,

regardless

of criminality

or venality,

reveals

a mentality

of those

who follow

their hollow

leader.

With a wink

and a nod,

and a facade

of leadership,

it’s actually

worship

of dictatorship.

He feign’s

populism

while always

the victim

of a system

that seeks

to convict

him.

Needing support

to pay

bills

(which he won’t

pay),

he shills

to thrills

of Magaworld.

To them,

he

is “we”;

he is their

guy

who will

defy

and deny

endlessly.

Aggressively

fomenting

without

literally

saying,

the wink

and the nod

are  conveying.

Outside

the courthouse

he boo

hooed

his plight,

lying

that his

right

to live

freely

has been

taken

from him.

Yadda

Yadda

Yadda…

it’s all

so exhausting

and seems

to be costing

him.

Day one

of the first

trial,

he was

caught

nodding

off–

unfortunately,

off camera.

Asleep

at the

“we’ll”,

he’ll

be revealed,

but it

remains

to be

seen

when,

and if

it will be

enough.

Looking Upward

Partial

was still

magnificent.

And significant

amount was seen.

Looking upward.

Thoughts and Prayers (Making America Pray Again)

Get your steaks,

ties,

water,

vodka,

bogus degree

from T

University,

NFTs,

mug shot

mugs,

golden sneakers,

cologne,

bible,

and more!

all for the low

low low

price…..

Wait!!!

The price

is much

much much

too high.

He really

puts the mess

in messiah

complex.

Or just the

reflex

to deflect

to protect

his project

which he

projects

on others.

How is it

all

possible

at all?

(audible

sigh).

He’s making

America

pray again!

For Chrissakes,

it’s Easter!

And his “favorite

book”,

said the crook

(who displayed

it upside

down

alongside

the military

blocking

lawful

protestors),

has always

been his

political

bible.

He loves

his sheep

and the silence

of the lambs

as he fancies

himself

the shepherd

and lion,

some bizarre

minotaur

defying natural

or any

laws.

He loves

to pedal

the idea

of his crucifixion

with each

fiction

he spews.

As we know,

thoughts

and prayers

live in heads

and hearts.

But insurrection

and presidential

resurrection

are results

of human

actions;

accumulations

before

elections.

Democracy,

as we see,

in this era

of crazy,

is more

than voting.

Activate

and advocate!

Thoughts

and prayers

never stop

the shooters.

The Key Bridge Collapse

The bridge

collapsed

right after

we left:

The bridge

that was

called

The Key.

The video

that captured

the rupture

of the structure

that gave way

the way

dominoes

fall

in succession

reminded me

of the twin

towers

collapsing—

each floor

on top

of itself

until

mere dust.

How quickly

collapse

occurs

once

what was

painstakingly

built

becomes broken.

Lives lost.

And lost

connection.

The Key Bridge

may be

an exception,

except

it seems

like an

expression

or projection—

a metaphor

for

our political

situation.

An enormous

vessel,

out of control.

broke

the bridge

that was key.

A Piece of Pi

Happy Pi Day

we’re supposed

to say

this 14th day

of March.

In celebration

of the aspiration

of the calculation

of the ratio

of a circle’s

circumference

to its diameter,

pies

are everywhere

today.

Greater than

3

indefinitely,

presumably

to infinity,

3.14……

opens the door

to conversation,

inspiration,

and innovation.

We tend

to measure

progress

as success

in linear

fashion.

Rational

thinking

suggests

it’s best

to proceed

toward

a finite

result.

Oh the tumult

of the irrational,

never

ending

chaos.

Still there

is sequencing

in the frequenting

of disruption

and corruption.

It’s the infinite

expansion,

however

inexpressible,

that we try

to make

accessible.

With Pi

we use

a decimal

to approach

the approachable;

In politics,

so fractious,

the fractions

are reproachable.

Whether measuring

circular motion,

waves,

aerodynamics,

or computer

graphics,

Pi

is ubiquitous

and thus

we observe

3.14

that measures

the curve—

the irrational

number

forever

repeating.

By the way,

a fun fact

for today:

Happy Birthday,

Albert Einstein,

whose calculus

taught us

relative

perspective.

Or did it?

Making Ago of It

MAGA

became

a party

to insanity

with no

real

vision,

just

division.

The sense

of impending

ending

of what

we treasure

is the measure

by which

we react.

Humanity’s

mortality

(and certainly

Democracy’s)

is what we

tend

to see.

At least

let’s not

go further

but add

some fervor

to be the

preserver

of this

life

now.

The party’s

over

so let’s

stand

our ground

into the ground

this time

around.

Screw

decorum—

a forum

for repression.

Bring

obsession

and regression

to the fore

and the floor

of our House.

Hats off

to 46,

who wants

to fix

so much

that is broken.

The Center

of Gravity

has normalized

depravity,

self serving

and unnerving.

Calling themselves

Conservative

is interpretive

at best.

Suggesting

Great

while exhibiting

hate

is actually

reflecting

our past.

We’re better

off

and on

a path

forward,

certainly

since

COVID.

But what

we thought

was outmoded

has a devoted

following.

Wallowing

in grievance

and demanding

allegiance

will not

forward

us.

Looking toward

what was

is blurry,

leaving out

the worst

and worry.

But many

feel

more confident

in the current

fever dream.

The wish

of 4 years

ago

is merely

to hold

on.

Making

America

Great

Again,

as though

it’s something

we only

know

from long

ago,

is oh so

hollow.

In the Mean Time

In

the Mean

Time,

adults see

difference

as deficiency,

and insufficiency

of means

as moral

failing.

In the Mean

Time,

an embryo

has more

right

to life

than its

mother.

In the Mean

Time,

if that embryo

develops

to be

female,

she will

lose her

embryonic

rights.

In the Mean

Time,

the pro

life

movement

is aligned

with unfettered

access

to military

grade

weapons

that tend

to show

up

shooting

down

schools,

churches,

clubs,

synagogues,

theaters….

etc

etc

etc….

In the Mean

Time

putting

prisoners

to death

is deserved,

despite

claims

to (and of)

the right

to life.

In the Mean

Time,

adults

insult

others’

physicality

as abnormality

or deformity

or just ugly,

and therefore

worthy

of discussion.

Disgust

has no

end

in the

Mean Time,

even

when others

are inspired

to harm

“hearing”

alarm

in debasing

and chasing

some ego

reinforcement

or political

endorsement.

In

the Mean Time,

fear dictates

so a near

dictator

can reappear

as POTUS.

Where

can

we go

in

The Mean Time?
